D86 Announces Revised Referendum Scope and Schedules Community Information Sessions

Hinsdale, Ill. – February 28, 2017 –Hinsdale Township High School District 86 today announced the details of the reduced scope for the April 4, 2017, bond referendum in the amount of $76 million as well as upcoming community information sessions. The community information sessions will provide opportunities for the public to see the facilities identified for proposed changes and ask questions.

 

This endeavor began in December 2014 as a renewed look at the District’s Master Facilities Plan. After over two years of work, the Board agreed at the February 22 Special Meeting on a reduced scope. Highlights of the proposed projects included in the reduced scope are:  

 

Hinsdale Central Improvements

Hinsdale South Improvements

Special Education  

Special Education

Expansion of Special Education, addition of a therapeutic sensory room and confidential spaces for meetings

Expansion of Special Education support spaces to support a second Foundations classroom, adaptable washroom and closer working spaces for paraprofessionals

Student Services

Cafeteria

Expansion of Student Services to provide easier access to Special Education and provide increased access to Counselors Commons, College and Career Center

Total update to kitchen serving spaces to eliminate current ADA issues, improve student serving times, improve sanitation and equipment

Fine Arts

Fine Arts

Larger band room, freight elevator and added accessibility to basement and fitness center

Current auditorium receives upgrades to ADA accessibility as well as lighting and technology, expansion of Band Room

Science and Classrooms

Technology Wing

Two-story addition to the Science Wing with two new science labs and three new general classrooms

Existing shop wing is renovated to support the Engineering/Architecture program with visually connected shop and computer-aided design (CAD) spaces

Aquatic Center

Aquatic Center

New 8-lane, 25-yard pool with appropriate depth diving well

Major renovation of existing aquatic facility to demolish and replace existing pool vessel into new, 6-lane, 25-yard pool with appropriate depth diving well

 

Library

 

Total rehabilitation of existing space to provide a one-level Media Production Lab, flexible presentation and production space

 

 

“We are pleased to present this refined scope to the community,” said Hinsdale District 86 Board of Education President Kay Gallo. “As a Board, we prioritized needs at both Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South. While this scope at the $76 million level cannot possibly provide all the needs identified by the Functional Teams, and the Steering Committee, it is a number that the Board could agree upon and it represents the projects that received the most Board support.”
